Biofeedback

Commonly, people report feeling their anxiety, stress, or trauma in their bodies. You may be familiar with experiencing a rise in heart rate, muscle tension, headaches, cold hands and feet, sweaty palms, or shaking. Sometimes, we may feel physiologically anxious without even knowing why.

Biofeedback addresses physiological symptoms of anxiety, stress, and trauma by teaching individuals how to control their reactions. In a biofeedback session, you will be connected to electrodes monitoring your respiration, heart rate, skin temperature, skin conductance, and muscle tension. You will be able to see how your body reacts to certain stimuli, and you will learn techniques to control these involuntary processes. Biofeedback is especially effective in the treatment of anxiety and its related disorders, such as specific phobias.

Continued practice and reinforcement teaches your body a new way to respond to anxiety, and you will develop a greater ability to self-regulate by noticing your own internal signals without the feedback. Progress can be seen in less than 10 sessions, and sometimes, in as little as 2 sessions.
